Alice Pennington (Ailes Peniton as listed in the marriage record) married Gholson/Golston/Golson Stepp/Stapp (variations in his name were frequent) 23 July 1782 in Wilkes County, NC. She was probably born around 1760 in Rowan County, NC and died abt 1787 in Wilkes County, NC. It has been suggested she was a daughter of Benajah (I) Pennington, but no evidence of her parentage has been found. Alice and Gholson had three children: Mary "Polly", John, and Alice "Patsy". Gholson remarried in 1789 and had four more children after Alice died.

Gholson Stepp was b. abt 1758 in Orange County, VA, the son of James Stepp and Lucy Gholson/Golston. He was a tory during the Revolutionary War and participated in various engagements. After Alice died, he moved to Kentucky and married Rachel Nelson. Gholson died abt 1803 leaving a will. Rachel died less than two years later. We know the names of Gholson's children from the two wills and which four were Rachel's; William, Sarah, Rachel, & James.

Does anyone have additional information on Alice Pennington (or need more on her husband and descendants)?
